The Private Rope Gathering by Riccardo Wildties
📅 September 20th 2025 – Peony Studio, Torino

🔹 What is Nawa Riccardo Kai?

In Europe and in the West, the world of bondage is often centered around workshops and performances. We train, improve, and eventually teach — but in doing so, we may drift from what it truly means to be a kinbakushi. Teaching and performing mean adapting to audiences, fitting into structures. Yet, at its core, kinbaku is more intimate, more personal.

During his journeys to Japan and his collaboration with Sugiura Norio Sensei, Riccardo Wildties rediscovered something vital — the joy and purpose of being a kinbakushi, not just an educator. In Japan, private sessions have always been the heart of a kinbakushi’s practice.

From Kinbiken to the Phantom Show, the true masters of rope built communities through these private gatherings — spaces where ideas were exchanged, beauty was shared, and rope was tied not as spectacle, but as expression.

We are proud to announce the 5th edition of 縄利狩人會 (NawaRiccardo-Kai) — the private rope meeting for students, fans, and followers of Riccardo Wildties.

Inspired by the tradition of Naka Akira’s Nawa Naka Kai — in which Wildties took part three times as a rigger — this event brings back the essence of that experience. Under the suggestion of Naka Sensei, the name 縄利狩人會 was chosen: “Nawa Riccardo Kai”, the Club of Riccardo’s Rope — or, depending on the reading, “The Rope Hunters Club”.

We imagine it as a gathering for those who are hunting for the beauty of traditional Japanese rope. A place to breathe it, discuss it, witness it.

This is a private session — no music, no limits. Just rope, people, and deep interaction. Each session offers the chance to observe Riccardo Wildties tying different models, showing how each connection brings something unique. The focus is on authenticity, intensity, and the aesthetic of traditional kinbaku.

But Nawa Kai is not just about tying. It’s about sharing. About speaking freely, without the constraints of workshops or performances. It’s a chance to hear Wildties recount his experiences with Naka Sensei, his trips to Japan, and the lessons that shaped his path.

It is a moment of cultural transmission — of legacy, beauty, and philosophy.
It is a space for meaningful conversations, for exchanging views on aesthetics, history, and purpose.
It is a place to observe, feel, and grow.

As Wildties himself has said:

“I’ve learned more by watching Naka Sensei tie than in any class I ever took.”
